Mr. Charlie My Friend

Mr. Charlie, as I knew him was a good old country boy at heart and a simple man that lived a simple life in the twilight of his time. He was my friend and very dear to me and I will truly miss him. My deepest condolences go out to his family and his loved ones.

I met Mr. Charlie in May of 2005 in a local bar the MD Line, when I, a "Baltimore City Slicker" first moved to PA. He was one of the first and few people who made me feel welcome when I first began stopping into the bar. He was very engaging and over the years as we became friends he would share stories with me about his childhood days and his experiences growing up on the Eastern shore of Maryland.

Mostly stories about his love for the outdoors, fishing and hunting. And as men often do after a few beers we shared quite a few stories about our many escapades and other funny stories about the girls and women that we'd dated, loved and cared for over the years.

When it came to the outdoors lifestyle he shared a wealth of knowledge with me. Things you wouldn't know nor learn growing up in the city. I've always respected the knowledge of my elders and I was very fortunate to learn about the country lifestyle from Mr.Charlie.

Mr. Charlie, would often speak of his children, and would quite often would brag about the size of the fish or about the amount of crabs that his son had just caught. He loved his son's dogs and he would look forward to them coming to visit him for treats. Which was quite frequently, as they only lived within running distance of his home.

As you can probably tell from what I've written thus far, is that me and Mr. Charlie spent most of our time together just knocking back beers at the bar and shooting the breeze. My wife Sharon, would always give me some home made food to take to Mr. Charlie, on the weekends as he didn't like to cook too often. Just mostly cooked Micro wave dishes and oodles n noodles. So whenever Sharon and I would stop in and see him, his face would light up when he'd see her, both because she's a good looking lady and in anticipation of him getting a hug and kiss on the cheek from her.

I always look for Mr. Charlies truck whenever I ride by the MD Line and when I see it I'll stop in to have a beer with my friend.

But, sadly now and in just this short time that he's been gone, my heart feels heavy when I ride by and see his truck's not there and with knowing that it will never be there again it makes me sad, but very thankful for the times we had.

Cheers, Mr. Charlie, may you rest in peace my friend!

Love, Johnny and Sharon
