Life Story for Robert Andrew Jones, Jr.

ROBERT ANDREW JONES, JR., 86 of Delta, PA and simply known as “Bob Jones” by all who knew him, died Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Senator Bob Hooper Hospice House, Forest Hill, MD. Bob was the beloved husband of Gladys Irene (Taylor) Jones with whom he faithfully shared 63 years of marriage. A lifelong resident of Delta, he was born August 10, 1932 in Whiteford, MD, the oldest son of Robert Andrew Jones, Sr. and Clara Margaret (Founds) Jones.

Bob was among the first class to graduate from North Harford High School in 1951. Following graduation, he embarked upon a career with the United States Army at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. On September 3, 1955 he married Gladys who he always addressed as “sweetie”. He retired in 1987 after 36 years of dedicated service. In addition to being a civil servant, Mr. Bob turned many heads as a gentlemen’s barber for more than fifty years in the Delta, Whiteford and Dublin communities. He was even known to make house calls to cut hair for the elderly and infirmed.

Bob had several other interests including reading, especially westerns and mysteries. He was gifted with artistic talents that he used to create works of art in multiple forms. Several relatives and friends are in possession of a now treasured keepsake. Bob’s organizational activities included: Friends of the Harford County Library-Whiteford Branch, the Delta Senior Center and the Old Line Museum as well as the preservation of the Coulsontown Cottages historic district. Throughout his life, he remained steadfast and true to his faith in God and had been actively involved during the formative years of Reformation Bible Church (formerly Evangelical Methodist). Those who knew Bob best can testify to the visible devotion and love shown to his wife and family. He was a true gentleman whose attention to detail was evident in everything he touched. “A job worth doing is worth doing right” was his philosophy.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Gladys, are his daughter, Cheryl Lynn Jarvis and husband, Jay, of Gallipolis, Ohio; two grandchildren, Joshua Allen Jarvis of Two Rivers, Wisconsin and Johanna (Joee) Joy Jarvis of Gallipolis, Ohio; one sister, Patricia Nunn and husband, Robert of Rising Sun, MD; two sisters-in-law, Yong Cha Jones of Bangor, Maine and Marie Jones of Whiteford, MD; many nieces and nephews as well as innumerable friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Taylor and Merna Watkins; two brothers, Laurence Jones and Franklin Jones.
