Life Story for John Allen Starn

JOHN ALLEN STARN, 85 of Airville, PA passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019. He was the beloved husband of the late Constance E. Starn; they were married for 64 years at the time of her passing. Born August 23, 1933 in Sunnyburn, PA he was a son of the late Earl Sylvester and Margie May (Miller) Starn.

John worked for 28 years at Duplex Printing Products where he was the night-shift inspector. Before, he had worked on a dairy farm and as a carpenter. Using those skills, he built his own home where he and his wife lived until their deaths.

John was an active outdoorsman. Starting in 1971, he and his wife traveled to Lake Molunkus Sporting Camp in Maine where they went on deer hunting and fishing trips. They often took additional friends and family with them to enjoy this idyllic lakeshore camp. An energetic man, he participated in the church softball team, a local basketball team as well as golf and tennis. Even croquet, spades and ping pong brought out his competitive spirit.

Throughout their lives, John and Connie had terriers to share in their adventures. In his later years, his dogs were a source of comfort to him. He was an avid reader who was drawn to westerns and mysteries. For over 60 years, John was a member of Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Airville, PA.

Sharon Scott (George) of Airville, PA
Wayne Starn (Bev) of Bel Air, MD

Sister, Goldie Crawford of York, PA

Nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean Yanochko who died in October 1993.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta, PA 17314 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral staff will be assisting with parking and handicap needs during the services. There will be no additional public services.
