Life Story for Thomas Joseph McVan, Sr.

A much loved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Thomas Joseph McVan Sr., 83, of Whiteford, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2018 after spending the day with his family. Tom was born December 9, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA and resided in Harford County for 42 years.
Tom was a sharp shooter in the Philadelphia Police Department’s Stake Out Squad, that was the foundation for what is now known as SWAT. He retired from the police department and eventually settled in Whiteford where he worked at Saint Joseph Hospital before enjoying time at home with his family and friends. Known for his sense of humor, Tom enjoyed playing cards especially Pinochle.

Tom is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joanne McVan; sons: Tom McVan Jr and John McVan; grandchildren: Conor McVan, Emily McVan, Patrick McVan, Kiernan McVan, Aiden McVan, Tess McVan and brother, Michael McVan.

A Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Pylesville, MD on Monday December 17 at 10am with a gathering afterwards to celebrate Tom’s life. The service arrangements are under the direction of his family.
